Councillor candidates

Kathy Sinclair

I'm excited to be running for one of two open city council seats in the City of Kamloops byelection on September 30th, 2017.

I consider myself, first and foremost, a problem solver. I'm as comfortable with budgets as I am with community consultation and strategic planning. Many of you may recognize me as the executive director of the Kamloops Arts Council. I've also been an active volunteer with numerous other organizations since moving to Kamloops in 2011.

My platform, "Long-term vision and creative solutions," focuses on building upon the Tournament Capital brand to grow tourism and the economy, fostering an environment that attracts and retains small business and ensuring economic, environmental and social sustainability.

I grew up on Vancouver Island and have lived in Victoria, Vancouver, Ottawa, Kelowna, London (UK), B.C.'s Sunshine Coast, Mexico and Dawson City, Yukon. I have a BA in creative writing from UVic and a Master of Publishing from SFU, and my work history includes non-profits, education, publishing and the tech sector. I'm also a former freelance book and magazine editor who understands the challenges of running an independent business.

Kamloops is at a crucial stage in its growth. We need jobs that will take us into the future. Enhancing quality of life in our community will help attract and retain the businesses and leaders that will carry our city forward.

We live in an incredible city. By serving on council, I want to help make it even better. Join me in building a city we're proud of.
